This page presents our Upgrade Policy, and details of how to upgrade/update your version of NoteTab Standard or Pro, as follows:

NoteTab Light 6.12 continues to be a freeware product and can be downloaded free of charge from our Downloads page.
Minor updates and maintenance releases are free for users of the corresponding major version. In other words, if you purchased NoteTab version 6.0, all updates up to version 6.99 inclusive are available for free. Major upgrades (version 7.x, 8.x, etc.) are available to registered users of previous versions at a 50% discount.
Free updates from version 6.x to the latest version (6.12) are available through NoteTab's "Check for Updates" feature, which is available from the Help menu. If you don't see the update link in the News and Updates window, make sure you click on the "Get headlines" button at the top-left of the dialog box to refresh the list.
Note that some download managers may take over this download process and interfere with normal operations. When this happens, temporarily turn off your download manager and try again. Another frequent problem is that a firewall is blocking access to the news server on the Internet. If you are using Windows Firewall and NoteTab cannot reach the update server, make sure that you uncheck the option labeled "Block all incoming connections" (Windows Vista) or "Don't allow exceptions" (Windows XP); you will find the option in the Windows Firewall settings window which opens from the Control Panel. If this setting is enabled, you are not notified when Windows Firewall blocks programs, and programs on the Exceptions list are ignored.
The only difference between the maintenance updates and the original full setup file is that the English thesaurus and dictionary are not included in the package. But those extra files can be downloaded at any time from the Dictionaries page. Once you're satisfied with an update, you can discard your copies of previous update Setup files and backup just the latest copy. The update Setup file is all you need to install the paid version of NoteTab on a new computer.
We are currently offering free upgrades from version 5.x to the latest version (6.12). These can can be obtained in the same way as version 6.x updates. Please refer to Free update from version 6.x to 6.12, above, for more information.

Registered users of NoteTab 4.x are eligible for a 50% discount to upgrade to the latest version (6.12). This offer is only available through NoteTab 4.95's "Check for Updates" feature. If you have an older version of NoteTab 4, you can update to version 4.95 for free (see "Free update from version 4.x to 4.95" below for more information).

For free updates from version 4.x to version 4.95, please follow the instructions below.
With this system, you receive the full Setup program for NoteTab, not a partial upgrade patch. The wrapper software ensures that only legitimate users can extract the registered copy of NoteTab. The advantage of this method over traditional upgrade patches is that once the Setup program has been extracted from the wrapper, you no longer need to keep older copies of the software. And if you backup the extracted Setup program, you can also delete the wrapper program.
Note that the upgrade will fail if your program file is damaged or infected by a virus. If this happens, check your computer for viruses and then reinstall your registered version of NoteTab. If the upgrade program still fails after this, please contact us with a description of the problem and your full registration details. In return, we will send you a personal, time-limited key to unlock the wrapper. This key can also be deleted once you have saved a copy of the extracted Setup program.
